Hi there. I am in search of suggestions. My 7yr. old has a very hard time with obedience and respect. He is the sweetest kid. I know, it seems contradictory. However, he is at the age where he thinks he doesnt have to listen to my husband and I. He doesnt like taking baths. He wants to do only what he wants to do, when he wants to. In other words, 40% of the time we have a hard time with him. We want to reinforce rules and manners that he has been taught all of his life but is now very defiant about. We want to break his defiance with out breaking his selfesteem. Help!!

I would suggest just sticking to everything you've done with him before. Enforce all the rules like you always have. Hopefully for the sake of you and your DH he will realize quickly that the things he is doing are not allowed or tolerated. Reward him for good behavior, even at 7yrs he would still probably enjoy a sticker chart of some kind. Every good day he has he gets a sticker for his chart, after so many good dys in a row he gets a treat (i.e. candy, trip to mcdonalds, trip to the toy store, ect).
