Just was wondering if anyone else takes this, and if you like it?

I had opposite side effect of depo then my sister had. she was only on it for 6 months and bleed the whole time.In my case i got the depo after the birth of my oldest daughter and at first i loved it because i had no periods.I also have Bipolar so after a few months after starting the depo i noticed that i was having problems. Then i started gaining a lot of weight.I talked to my doctor about the issues and he decided to take me off the depo,He warned me that i could have irregular period and so forth.Well didnt have a period for almost 2 years after getting off the shot it took 7 years to get pregnant with our angle baby (Christopher David)But my sister who had taken it for only a few months and bleed the whole time, when she stopped taken it her periods got back to normal. Now she is 32 and that happened 12 years ago and she has not used birth control at all since and hasn't gotten pregnant at all....:( shes been try for 12 years Thanks for letting me share my experience with you all ~Have a great day mommies

I was on Depo after the birth of my daughter from April 1998 until Sept 2002. And was able to get pregnant in June2003. Took us longer to get pregnant than expected 9 months later. I loved Depo, and had no side effects what so ever. I had no bleeding at all, as a matter of fact I had a normal period in April and May of 1998 then after that I didn' have one again until after the birth of my 2nd daughter in 2004.

I wa on it for about two years and was fine but it took me almost that long to get pregenant(sp). this time I have had one shot and it is almost ime for the next one but I'm not going to get it cause I have been bleeding the entire time and been real moody. I say talk to your doctor and you can always try it and see how you feel.

I was on the depo shot for like 4 years, starting at age 15, because it was the only option that worked to control the pain I suffered from endometriosis. I'd tried the pills that were supposed to help, but they all made me feel naseous or had other unpleasant side effects. I didn't have any side effects, no weight gain, and no periods while on depo. It was convenient & I didn't mind it at all. However, my sister was on depo for 5-6 years & she was taken off because she'd gone to the ER with severe abdominal pain & bleeding that was determined to be caused directly by her prolonged use of depo. (Her doc hadn't told her she should only use it a short time, this was a few years ago) I guess because depo is such a strong supressant of the reproductive system, it can actually cause the lining of your cervix to thin to the point of tearing because it's not going through the normal cycles it's used to & basically it just continued to weaken over time. I'd seriously check into all my other options before doing depo.

I had the shot 5 times but on the last shot that I had I got a very serious infection which could have resulted in loosing my arm if I had not gone to the hospital. My doctor had me on 3 different antibiotics but none worked.Every doctor I saw could not believe it came from the Depo needle. oh yeah and 18 mnths later I fell pregnant with my beautiful baby girl.....

i had depo for about 3 years, i liked the no period, i didnt really have the mood swings that people have- except when it was about time for my next shot - then i was moody... i didnt like the fact that i have no libido at all and im really dry down there ... so i am switching to the mirena - which i know has its own risks and side effects, but i like the fact that i prob. will still not get a period. =)

i used it for 4 years and recently came off it b/c i started experiencing strange side effects e.g chest pain, feeling tired alot, aches and pains, to name a few but overall i liked it i didn't have any periods the whole time i was on it!! Since coming off it i am having trouble getting any pattern back to my cycle and seem to always have very sore breasts! If you are considering using it make sure you do your research well it doesn't suit everyone which was something my sister discovered!

I posted questions regarding birth control recently on circle of moms and a medical assistant who works for a ob/gyn she told me that depo prevera is only recommended for up to three years of use due to the risk of cervical cancer. A new recommendation from the CDC and AMA. So much has changed since I had birth control to worry about that I wanted the opinions of other parents and to find out what is avaiable for my questioning, rapidly approaching, soon to be age appropriate daughter. I'm not looking to respark that conversation but I felt this woman's advice regarding depo was helpful and I greatly appreciated her support.

I just started it at the end of last month. I have been bleeding for a week now, which is driving me nuts! But other then that so far its been good. Even if I continue to bleed I'm going to keep up with it for at least a year, I want to give it time. Unless something gets really bad then I will get off it.
