Diaper changing trouble

This is totally normal. Some kids just don't like the whole experience. Some things my sister in law did that worked for my squirmy nephew were to distract him while on the changing table. She gave him something to hold or sang a song as Shannon mentioned, but she also got him to play peek-a-boo with her using a cloth diaper. He would hold it over his face and she'd say, "Where's Dillon?" Then he'd move the cloth diaper and smile, and she'd say, "There he is!" You could make your own game up too. Like "What's That Noise?" where you act like you can barely hear something far off and then all of a sudden say, "Oh, it's a cow!" and moo in her face. Repeat with other animal noises she knows.

With my son, I have everything hand so I can get it changed quickly. And then I hold his knees up to his chest with one hand and change with the other.

My son was the same way. I bought a toy SPECIFICALLY for diaper changing time. Then I took it away after the diaper was changed, it gave him something to look forward to. Another thing that helped was actually changing him on a changing table, he didn't really want to squirm away and fall! Singing to him while I changed his diaper was also a huge help, songs like "Old McDonald" are GREAT, because you can make them longer and longer depending on the mess that has been made! Plus, it's educational right? To this day my son still likes me to sing old mcdonald to him while I change his diaper, only now, I let him fill in the blanks for the animal and sounds!

it's just crazy that i would see this post about squirmmy babys and diapers...the very same day i answered to this my 6mo old daughter started doin it!!! I swear that she was reading everyone's posts behind my back and had to try it out!LOL

YEAH....my 9 month old boy is doing this too! I don't what the heck it's all about. He has never had a problem w/ geting his diaper changed. Sometimes he screams at me so loud that if someone were standing outside the window they would prolly think I was like hurting him! My son loves the strings on his shoes so recently I have been letting him play w/ that and it seems to help. Good Luck to you......I know it stinks!

I would say, make it as fun as possible and as fast as possible. If you are doing this on the floor, clamp down with your leg if you need to (had to with both of mine). If you are on a changing table, strap her and hold her. Safety is not up for debate.

The biggest issue right now is she is just too busy playing and having fun for this changing business.

Terrie has the right idea. when my oldest was about that age we went thru the running away from clean diapers. if she was already cleaned i would just let her go for a bit bare-butt,somedays she just wanted to be "free".I think it's a good idea to let a booty air out once in a while too.I never let her go longer then 5 mins w/o the new diaper ,i didn't want to clean the floor.
But after "free time" I would have to change her on the floor and hold her legs down with my legs to keep her from twisting away again. When that stopped working I became a pro at diaper changing on the run! i could get her old one off,cleaned and new one on while in motion.

My daughter is 10 months and does the exact same thing and has been doing it for the last few months (when she started crawling)... you may try distracting her with something, distracting doesn't work for my daughter, but it may work for you



the only way I can even control my daughter is to change her on the floor, hold both hands and feet with 1 hand and clean FAST, and when it comes to putting the clean diaper on if she is still fighting, I just stick it on as best as possible, (I've even had to put the diaper on backwards a time or two)

No it started a couple of months ago and it was out of the blue. The only thing I can think of that might of caused it was a case of diaper rash she got from just pooping many times within a short period of time when I gave her too much pedialyte(spelling?) she does play with toys during the process but normally wants to run away and just sit
up diaperless to play with them. But thanks for the help. I think I will try the song idea. :-)

Has she always done this? Maybe give her favorite toy while changing or let her hold the diaper while you change the dirty one. Maybe sing a "diaper" song to keep her entertained.
