My son has been having issues with regular formulas...Ive tried everything. He would go days without pooping and be miserable until he did. I started him on nutramigen yesterday, his stools have been pretty loose and he also seems to be eating less than he did on similac. Help?!?

Well I just started him on it yesterday...he seems to be doing better....its just bizarre to be that hes eating alot less than he used to on the similac...my mother in law said it could be because his stomach is finally able to rest, it always seemed to be upset and she said he couldve been eating more because of that. Idk...Ill def talk to his ped though

Def speak to your pediatrician, it might not be diarrhea, but just loose stools, My dd had them every day whilst she was on Nutramagen, it did take a little while for her to get used to the formula taste, I found tat at first she took the ready make formula much better than the powder then I started giving her a couple of ready made bottles and then a couple of powder bottles until she was just taking the powder ones.

Yes it is expensive but, if your baby does have a reflux (and even if they aren't spitting up they could still have it) it could help. I wouldn't recommend putting rice cereal in the bottle (spk to your ped about this they will not recommend it at all) just becasue the formula is padded out doesn't mean they will digest it any easier.

How long has he been on it?

I did not like nutramigen and it is to expensive. Are you only having problems with the stool or is it making hs stomach hurt. He might have acid reflux talk to your peditrician. Try adding a teaspoon of rice cereal to his bottles, you might have to cut the hole bigger in the nipple, this works great and I started doing it a 4 weeks old.

I just was afraid that he would get dehydrated if he was having diarrhea and not eating as much...he went from eating 4 oz at a time...to 3 sometimes even 2....

Yes - my dd was on Nutramigen and she had very loose stools nearly all the time she was on it. It didn't bother her thought just me as they where so so smelly! He may be eating less as the Nutramigen tastes different (alot different) to the other formulas and it may take him a while to get used to it.
