Ive heard many other moms on this other side who use vinegar for punishment. I surely wouldnt want "vinegar," in my mouth! I cant stand the smell of it alone without almost puking!
I think its very wrong to use that for punishment.
What do you all think??

Hi Diane , Well back in the 70's we used a drop of dish detergent on our finger to rub on their tongue it was safer than gagging the child with a bar of soap= but basically it cleaned out their system and their language. The only thing vinegar will do is help the child lose weight and nasty words. I have heard of children who were punished by having things removed from their rooms= the one instance I was told about didn't work the child only had a mattress left on the floor??!!! Good luck our best remedy was a long talk to make the child see your point of view= just make sure where they have been learning the language. I had a child who intentionally did wrong to get attention. Sometimes just spending time talking with them and telling them how disappointed you are with their choice of words does the trick. I would suggest funny but decent words to clear up the problem but also talking to see why their were cursing =were they bullied, criticized, or did they use them to feel bigger than their opponent? Good Luck!

Like, for swearing, instead of washing the mouth out with soap? I've never heard of it. I don't plan on going the whole wash-mouth-out route, but if it's necessary, I'll reconsider! :) Vinegar is gross, that's true, but if the point is to make it a bad taste without physical harm, I guess you might as well go with it. I don't mind the smell of vinegar that much. It always reminds me of canning pickles and of bee stings.
