My oldest daughter is a very loving and sweet little girl, but she has the worst problems with being extreamly emotional and overly tearyeyed all the time. I am still not sure how to deal with it or how to approach it, I know depression is a prominent thing in my family as I suffer from it. Is their a good way to deal with a young girl in 1st grade who seems to have emotional distress with everything from kids at school to family????

I am in the same boat as you, I will keep an eye on this post. I don't believe that it is depression though, although I also have a history of it. She is extremely emotional and takes everything said and done to heart. I was told yesterday that the kids in her kindergarten class call her a cry baby. The most I can do for her is to help her find a way to deal with it, I certainly don't want her personality to change. Good luck finding the answer that you need, I will keep an eye to see if anything may help with my daughter as well. God bless

I wouldn't think of it as a problem. I think some people are just more emotional than others. I have known people that have been that way their whole lives, and not being depressed. I think there is a difference between being very emotional and being depressed. Well that is what I think anyway...My daughter is 2 and the littlest things can bug her sometimes and make her cry. I was just thinking this today-why is she always whining or crying over something. I guess the only thing I could think of is when she does over react to a situation would be to explain to her that it is not that big of a deal and to relax, calm down. I really can't think of any other ways to help. Seems like its more of a personality trait to me.I wish you all the luck.
