Does anyone use a playpen anymore?

When my children were young, everyone I knew used a playpen. Without one, we would have never gotten anything done! We started when the baby was just a few months old so thet got used to it. This was especially useful when they started to crawl as it provided a safe place to play. It also encourages the baby to play independently for a while even within sight of Mom in the kitchen etc.

I didn't really use it with my first but I did with my second. Mostly because we have a big dog and 2 sets of stairs. Once he was big enough, we tipped it on its side and it became their 'fort/ toy-cave' :0)

We used one because both of our kids were early walkers, so the only way to get anything done was to cage them for safety. We also took it with us on trips as a travel crib.

I actually did not use one when we lived in an appartment. Now that we are in a bigger house i def. Think it is really big help. My second child started crawling earlier than my first. Plus we lived in an appartment with our first. I donno i think its a big help!

My playpen is more a 1m x 1m play cage. Youre all talking about a porta cot.

only when we go away. It drives me nuts when my kids are underfoot in the kitchen but even when I was able to put baby gates up they just stood at the gates and screamed so I usually put a helathy snack or two on the table while I'm cooking if they freak to be able to get it done in peace or ask daddy to take them. Most of my cleaning though gets done after they are in bed. It's just easier that way and I get to spnd more time with them.

I had one for #1, but didn't use it. He was a very easy little man. Now with #2 I would have needed one, but we have a massive open plan living area (kitchen, lounge, dining &play room) so I can do things without them getting under my feet, but still keep an eye on them. I just have baby gates at the entrances of the kitchen and I can cook dinner in peace, but still watch them.

i had one and have used it for both my kids at some stage but have now got rid as it became a storage area instead of a play area. my son is happy to play alone and i still manage to get things done.

We use one for sleeping while away on trips and for a little while as a calm down spot when my son was still to little to really have time outs but needed a minute to himself to calm down but not as a regular play area. We baby proof the house and just let them play. It means we don't have as many decor items as I would like but they won't be this small for very long and it lets them have lots of room to play without me having to run after them or say "no" a million times a day.

Well I use one for when we go places to sleep and I use it in the summer when I need to mow the lawn. My daughter does not like just sitting in it and playing and even when I mow the grass she will only stay happy if her brother is in it with her. I don't bother setting it up during the day because I just do most of my stuff while she is sleeping.
