Apryl is 7 months gonna turn 8 in a week. She doesn't have any teeth out yet, but looks like she is about to have one pop out pretty soon. But before she had a tooth on the verge of comming she always had pretty bad breath. She drools and chews on her hands then touches her face all over and makes her whole head smell. How do I get rid of her bad breath? Is this normal??

My daughter didn't get a smell to her breath until she was about 18 months old, but brushing her teeth really has helped. I still haven't introduced toothpaste to her, though...just a wet toothbrush is all we use.

If her whole head gets smelling from her chewing her hand and rubbing her head, though, that doesn't sound normal. I'd try brushing her gums or just wiping them with a wet washcloth after she's eaten/been fed. If that doesn't help within a few days, it may be worthwhile to call her doctor and ask if they have any advice or think she might need to come get checked out for an infection.

I've always been told that when a baby has bad breath - breath that smells like adult bad breath or something else .. not just milk breath - then that could mean their throat is hurting or they are sick in some way. As another commenter mentioned, it could be bacterial. If it were my baby, I'd either schedule an appointment or at least call my doctor's office and ask the nurses and ask about it.

Hope this helps!

She might have some sort of bacterial infection in her mouth, I would take her to the doctors and have it checked out.
