Dora the Explorer as a Tween???

For anyone who does not know yet Nickelodeon and Mattel are planning on making Dora the Explorer suddenly grow up to be a tween. She will have a new look - tall and thin, longer hair with a mini-skirt. There is a petition circulating asking Nickelodeon and Mattel to please either not change Dora or to keep the 5-yr-old Dora as well as the tween (if they must make her grow up). Anyone who has children, nieces/nephews, grandkids, etc who love Dora can sign the petition at: Please join us in trying to keep a great role-model for out younger children. No word yet if Diego will grow-up or continue. Thank you to all who help.

I really didn't see a problem with it either...How is the tween Dora any different than tweens like Hannah Montana?!

They're not changing the movies or episodes at all, Dora will still be the same age, size and appearance as she always did.  They're just adding a new line of merchandise, (like Kari said) to broaden their target group to include 'tweens'.  No worries, they'll never get rid of the Dora we all know and love.

ps I'm happy they're making Dora grow up a bit, our kids are growing up too right?  :)))

first of all, it's not a mini skirt, but a tunic and leggings, which all little girls wear at some point in their lives. and from what I understand, they are still going to have regular dora, and just add in the tween line of merchandise. they are simply making it to where more than toddlers and preschoolers can still enjoy watching the show. I saw a pic of how they intend to make her and I see nothing wrong with it.
