eatting cereal

Does anyone have any ideas on how i can get my 4 month old to eat cereal from a spoon? He keeps spitting it out or refusing to open his mouth, but takes it just fine in a bottle!

Try giving him cereal mixed with Stage 1 fruit. 1 tablespoon of fruit should do it. Cereal itself taste nasty but you can mix some fruit for flavor. That should work.

We tried different cereals and mixed it up.  One day he would have single grain oatmeal, the next rice, and next barley.  We also found that the ones with bananas or mixed fruit worked better.  It took our little guy awhile to get it too.  Just be patient, it will come.  Try not to make it clumpy, but more soupy, the texture of new things can cause little ones to spit it out. The more you attempt it, the more likely he will get used to it.

I wouldnt give him it in a bottle it can be dangerous,, what i did with my son was when he spat it out i scraped it up off his chin and back into his mouth, sounds disgusting but he'd eat it! either that or just make it really runny, so he can "drink" it from the spoon. Hope that helps :)

I made it kind of soupy then held the spoon with the cereal on it up to my son and niece's mouth and let them suck it off. They got the hang of a spoon in no time!

I used to mix the cereal with my kids formula/breast milk and then add just a little fruit to it just to get it to taste a little better. :)
