i have a 8 month old grandson who mostly wants to be held. I can't always hold him for the simple fact is that i have things to get done, i do things while he is sleeping ,but most of the time i am not quite done when he awakes from his nap. How do i get him to play my himself. Help

I put mine in a walker in the room i have to be in or a jumparoo there is toys on these things and he is near you and can see what you are doing. the sling gets heavy aftera while if you want to try it go for it but it was always to much for me. I have two kids one 7 months and the other just turned three I don't have a lot of time with slings and backpack things.

You could try wearing him in a sling or backpack. He will be really interested to see what you are doing. My son is 9 months and he's the same - he has no interest in toys. I either wear him in my moby wrap or keep him beside me so he can watch what I"m doing. See if you can find ways to involve him in what you're doing. Like if I'm cooking, he sits on the kitchen floor and plays with the pots and spoons. If i have to bring the washing in I take him outside with me and then carry him back in on top of the washing basket. When I'm folding the washing, I drape things over his head and play peek-a-boo at the same time. When I make the bed, I throw the blankets over him and he squeals and loves it. It's a slow way to get things done but you get a happy baby.

I found with my first that music was a good diversion. I'd put it on just softly so I could still hear what was going on while I was pottering around. He was quite happy to have the 'company'.

I would put him down show him some toys and then do what you have to do. If he starts crying let him know in a sweet voice that you're still there but you can't hold him. I don't know how that would work but you could try. Also a swing is awesome and a portable vibrating chair. They always helped when there was something that I needed to get done.
