If the child was two, I'd say it's okay to warn them they might get hurt and to be careful and let them get a few little bonks, but even then if it's going to be a bad fall you should prevent it.

That being said, if after discussing it with your sister, turn her into child protective services, social services, DCFS, whatever it is called in your area. It is NOT ok for the baby to be getting hurt.

Same question as Liz, fall from where? Is she leaving him to fend for himself on the change table and going to answer the phone? Or is she not padding the coffeetable? What sort of falls is he having?

I have a step in the main area of the house that I have never protected my son from. He has had a few bumps playing around it, but now at 17 months I don't have to worry about him and stairs. Some people thought that was bad, but I consider it small hurts to avoid big hurts.

If she has been letting him fall and hit his head since birth, she is neglecting his safety. That is child abuse and even though it is your own sister, child services need called. It is a 6 month old baby. He can't ask for help. Someone needs to be his advocate.

No it's not ok for the baby. I don't think anyone will agree with your sister that it's ok because it's child abuse.
