Feeling guilty for not being able to nurse my second child for the full first year.

I was able to nurse my first child for the whole year, even though we started supplementing at 9 months because my supply dropped but he was still getting a good amount from me. Now, with my second I started supplementing at 4 months and have pretty much stopped breastfeeding her at about 7 months. I've been feeling really guilty that I haven't put more effort in trying to increase my milk supply so I can nurse her and plus the cost of formula is killer!
I just needed some peace of mind that other moms have come across this feeling and seeking advice on how to deal with it. Should I try harder to increase my milk supply so I can nurse her again for the remaining 4-5 months of her first year?

Why wouldn't you? Breastfeeding is all about supply and demand-if you stop demanding it by supplementing, then your body will stop supplying it. It can be brought back up but it's difficult. If you're pumping, try pumping an extra five minutes after you've stopped getting a lot out. Within a couple of days your milk should begin to increase and then your cost of formula will go down. I had to stop nursing my daughter at 9 1/2 months. I couldn't figure out why she was such a fussy nurser, always pulling off and pushing on me HARD! It hurt so bad when she pushed! i finally figured out after I started giving her a a bottle that she was trying to separate me from my boob :) she didn't want me attached to her milk supply, even now when she's almost asleep she still won't let me touch the bottle. If you can nurse, I would recommend it. It'll save you a lot of money in the long run, and make you feel less guilty. However, if your milk doesn't increase, then at least you can know you've tried and there's nothing wrong with supplementing if it comes to tht because you gave it your best shot.
