This is the third full day where the fever has just not gone away. Like when i give her the tylonel it goes away for the 4 hours then i have to give it to her again or else the fever coems right back. I just checked her temp and its now at the highest of 39.8 i think is 103.64. I just gave her tylonel again. I had her at the doctor yesterday and he gave me drops for her ears and said they were inflamed. So i mentioned the first day it started with a runny nose and then that night she was throwing up and had the fever. The following day within 20 minutes she had diareahhea twice and fever on and off all day. SHe has again thrown up since the first night. But the doctor said to try and not give her the tylonel and let the fever break on its own, but the poor thing cant lift her head or nothing and can barley open her eyes. He said a fever helps kill off the infection which ive never herd of before. He gave me eardrops which ive been given her and he gave me antibiotitcs but doesnt want me to start them right away...so does he just not know whats wrong with her? How long do i let this fever keep comming and going and how high before it becomes dangerous and i take her to emerge? Any suggestions would be great....
Im not someone who takes her to the doctor but when its this bad i get worried for herP.s also two weeks ago was her first vist cause at night shed puke and have diarehhea bad but no fever...lasted four nights before i took her to the hospital and they sent her home saying it was a stomach virus....

9am Children's Tylenol

12pm Children's Motrin

3pm Children'sTylenol

6pm Children'sMotrin

our pediatrician recommends no fever, i haven't heard of a fever being good other than indicating that something is wrong so you know your child needs care.

you can't give any medicine before the body is ready, so Tylenol at 4hours is too soon it will also aggravate her belly. but this schedule will allow her body to process both and bring down her temp. also, keep her cool. no onsies or t-shirts under pjs and use a humidifier if you have one. germs love to live in warm dry air. they're not crazy about cool moist air. keep her head elevated, if she's in a crib, put a pillow under the head of the mattress, if she's older just keep two pillows under her head. fluids or Pedialyte, Popsicle, etc. i'd hold off on the antibiotics until her belly is a little better or maybe just half of the dose??? that's a hard call.

if you feel things don't seem right, then take her to another doctor. our 2 1/2 yr old's fever spiked in half an hour and i rushed her to the doctor's office when our appt wasn't for another 6 hours. it was the right thing to do. otherwise you risk febrile seizures.

go with your gut. personally, i am all about having a female doctor who is a mom.

a ear infection can cause a fever, my son had a very high one that came out of no where, i took him in an he had a very bad one an thats where the fever was coming from. it sounds crazy! i would start the antibiotic, it wont hurt, it will help if any thing but i would do the tylonel an motrin, i promise your child will feel so much better. i do this with all four of mine. but keep doing the drops an start the antibiotic, at least thats what i would do, but you have to do what you feel is right for your child. it never hurts to get a second opion.

Well the tylonel is working. When i give it to her the fever subsides for the 4 to 5 hours but if she happens to be sleeping or napping when her next dose is due then boom it sky rockets right up. My main thing is when should i start the antibiotics, i guess how long should i do the ear drop medication before starting the other antibiotics. He wanted me to hold off on it but didnt say how long. I guess he wants to see if the ear medication will stop the fever,,,confuzed lol i should mabey just take her to another doctor and get a second opinion mabey then ill understand. I just feel so bad for her going on her forth day of a constant on anf off again fever.

i have a sick one also an this what my doctor said to do, rotate motrin an tylonel every 3 to 4 hours, so there is always one working. i always give my kids them both motrin an tylonel at the first time an then tylonel then motrin an so on. it works really well, an the doctor that told me to do this is a childrens hospital doc, so ever since i have been doing this , this is just what works for mine .
