I just moved to a new state, 8 hours away from friends and family. I have a 2 1/2 yr old son and a 6 month old daughter. My fiance wants to go out with me to movie, restraunt, etc without the kids. I have always been picky about babysitters. Ever since i had my son i would only allow my mom, my sister, my sister in law and my bestfriend of 11 yrs babysit. Jesse keeps suggesting all these people who offer to babysit and niether of us know them very well. I told him the only reason i would allow it is if we get a "nanny cam". He said i was acting crazy. I told him how many kids are abused, shaken or killed by their "trustworthy" babysitters, including an 8 month old i used to babysit who was strangled to death by her daytime siiter, (who FYI still has her daycare).

Anyway what are your opinion?

thanks

this is a hard one.. I do believe that eventually you need to start learning to trust that not EVERYBODY is a bad person, I mean even those you trust can turn out to be not to be very good people. That being said the only way you can ever become comfortable is to get to know these people... I don't see the problem in using the nanny cam however if your husband won't let you get to know these people he wants to babysit for you.

NOT CRAZY AT ALL. Im right there with you my family is 17hours away and boyfriends family is 2 hours away. However he agrees with me not to have anyone watch our son but his god mothers and they still live 2 hours away and have not asked them to watch him yet. They've shown on dateline things like kids getting abused and the only proof was a nanny cam. Do what you feel, don't even tell him your going to install one as bad as that may sound, do it for your comfort.

I understand where you are coming from... You see on the news almost everyday, (baby shaking syndrome, kidnapping, child neglect, child abuse) I could make any parent scared... I would do the same thing like you, just to make sure that my child/ren are safe. That is not being crazy, that is just being secure and protective of your child.
