My 2 1/2 month olds fingernails are so sharp. It seems like I'm constantly filing them down and they're still so sharp! He has scratches all over his face! I'm REALLY afraid to use the nail clippers. Any suggestions?

I used a file for the first month. i scrapped her nail on my hand, and if i felt a rough spot, i'd file it more. I did it upward... like running her nail down the length of the file, instead of side to side. i use clippers now that her nails grow in different/ better. adult ones too. its not that bad as long as you're careful. i have nicked her just once or twice.

My son is just about 5 months old and he still gets scratches all over his face. He doesn't do it as much as what he did shortly after we brought him home. I've tried clipping, biting, and filing. Nothing has worked for me. When I clip them and file his nails they are still sharp and he still gets scratches. There is a couple days that he won't scratch his face, but that is 2 or 3 days after I clip them. He won't scratch his face for 2-4 days until they need clipped again.

I was scared at first to cut my kids nails as well. But theres a trick that I do......when i get my 2 yera old to sleep then i cut his nails b.c hes not miving and it makes it really easy to do.and when he wakes up then i file them down. back and forth motion u no side to side and his nails arent sharp for bout a week.

It doesn't matter what you do...clip them, file them, or bite them they will still be sharp....my daughter always had scratches on her face(couldn't get her to keep the mittens on) for the first couple months and nothing I did mattered. And now they grow long super fast so I am constantly biting them(I feel more comfortable with this method)....I just did it last Saturday and by Wed. they were already in need of some trimming. Idk what it is about babies nails. The only thing I could say is try biting them(VERY carefully) or maybe putting lotion on his hands would soften them some....I really don't know. Eventually he will learn and stop scratching his face. Sorry hun not much else you can do.

I was terrified to clip my daughters nails at first. But I had the same problem and just had to get over my fear and do it. I couldn't believe how easy it was. She was so good when I did it. She is now 8 months and still is good about it. I'm not sure what else you could do. Good luck though!
