My son is about to turn 1 on October 2nd! We are having a hard time picking out gifts that would be good. There are so many and they are so expensive in the first place, we just want to make sure that the ones we get are actually ones he might get some use and enjoyment out of. Any recomendations???

Most leap frog toys are awesome. My kids love them plus they get to learn at the same time but fair warning some of them are loud.

yeh the little tikes 3 in 1 trike is FANTASTIC! We got our son one when he was 9 months old (he is 1 in 4 weeks and this was his early bday pressie) It really is great. We also have bought him a ride on push cart, some musical instruments (drum, piano, cymbals etc-he loves shaking things) and some little hard books.Thats about all as i know he will get spoilt from other family/friends.

In my experience, keep it simple. They don't understand really and they get overwhelmed with big turn out. Maybe just family and close friends. Make sure to record with lots of pics and a movie. I think the first birthday is for moms anyway saying , " Hey look we made it through the first year!" Good luck whatever you do.

On my daughter's first birthday we bought her a tent and filled it up with small colorful balls. Just like what Barney said - When you have a ball, its the world's greatest toy of all. At one, kids are still exploring colors, and movements they are capable of. Next thing you need to prepare for is the party!!

Oh and remember he's going to be turning one,he wont even remember if you bought him the most popular or expensive gift. Save all that stuff for when he's a little bigger. I'm sure he'll be making birthday gift lists for you when that time comes lol.

I would go with something simple but fun. You're def. right about toys being expensive and from what Ive seen with my daughter, little ones really seem to love simple toys. Anything that's helping them learn are great too! They're perfect little sponges at this age and they have no idea they're even learning they think it's all fun.

I agree with Chris....Educational Toys such as Leap Frog are the best and a child can never have too many clothes. Prep for the Fall !

What are his interests? All toys at this age are educational, even a ball. Just pick a few toys that he is interested in. What ever you don't get now you can always get for Christmas. I highly recommend any of the Leap Frog toys, they are all educational and wonderful toys.

i would get one of the 3-in-1 push and ride toys. my girl is 14 months and that was the best thing we could have gotten her. at this age a lot of toys aren't needed anyway. sophie has more fun with the paper towel roll then most things. lol
