I have friends who have little boys and they have a "girlfriend" in preschool. I highly doubt that they are truly in a relationship other than a friendship, which is perfectly okay. As a boy gets older, they will start to take interest in girls, which is normal as well. At 6-10 years of age they may say they have a "girlfriend", but if you ask them what they do, you will get a nothing response. Mostly at this age they are realizing that girls don't have cooties and they will like a girl and nothing more. At around 11 or 12 they usually start wanting to go hang out with a girlfriend. This may include a parent chaperoned movie, trip to the mall, or dinner at a fast food place. I would say a boy should not have a serious girl friend until about 14-16 years of age, but they always have some idea of a girlfriend through out life. I guess it depends on how old your son is. If he is old enough to want to take her on a "date", then talk to her parents and let them know that you are chaperoning their trip to the movie or whatever they choose to do and while you will give them their space, you will always being in view of them. Good luck.

Im 12 and I kind of like a girl. I know she like me bc she always hangs out around me and a i catch her looking at me a lot. I'd say that it's ok to have a girlfriend at any age really, but not really serious. just try to find out how serious their relationship is, and talk to her mom.
