so, my new year's resolution is to get my life a bit more organized. it feels like an exercise in futility but... i'm giving a few different things a shot.

one is this home notebook concept: http://organizedhome.com/household-noteb...

the other is the motivational stuff from FLYLady.com.

anybody else attempting to get themselves more organized? if so, what are you trying? if you've got some really cool ideas, let us know what they are and share any tips or tricks you've got up your sleeve. :)

life has gotten in the way of doing alot of the stuff that FLYlady is suggesting, but just changing the perspective from "I need a schedule" to "I need a routine" has taken a lot of pressure off me. once i claw my way out from under this depression i'm struggling with, i have a feeling this thing is going to just take off. :)

Well, its been a realy busy week for me and mine. We had an inspection today so the week prior we spent alot of time cleaning up and clutter clearing. My house looks so much bigger now :P
We gave away 8 bags of clothes and donated 5 to charity. Got rid of the cot and matress the walker and high chair.
Everyone has been told that if they want to buy something, they have to give something away. For me thats hard, im a book warm and I luv to re-read my books, so i have had to make some sacrafices just to keep my bookcase from collapesing lol.
I think a good clean out is good, its not something i would have prefered had I a choice, but its now going to be much easier to keep things organised, or atleast partial anyway

I try to stay organized. My best tip for getting started: Start one room at a time. Take several bags/boxes for give away, throw away or consignment. Once that room is finished, close the door and move on to the next room. Take your time and set a limit for how long each room/area will take, that way you won't linger too long deciding what to do with each item. For clothing/toys, if you can't remember the last time it was used, it's safe to get rid of it! Good luck!

I'm normally pretty organized, but since we have moved twice in less than 2 years, some things have gotten moved around and shoved in boxes. Lately I have decided to buy one or two clear totes everytime I go grocery shopping. They are only like $4 a piece (for the clear which are better, because you can see what is inside without having to move everything). $4-8 isn't going to hurt my budget at any one time, and since I have been doing it for a couple months, I have quite a few. Now if I can just get my husband to help me go through everything in the basement to put them in the totes! LOL! Also, what really helps me a lot, is to only work on one room a week/2 weeks depending on the room. Like, the first week I went through my boy's room. I cleaned out the dressers one day, the next I threw out toys that were broke etc... That way it didn't seem too overwhelming and I still had time to do my normal house cleaning. If you have a bigger room, maybe like the kitchen you may even want to give yourself 3 weeks to get it all organized (maybe the pantry week 1, top cupboards week 2, bottom cupboards week 3) They always say Rome wasn't built in a day, so don't expect to have your whole house organized in one day or two. Good luck!

I know this may sound a bit cliche...but Martha Stewart's website has a whole section on orgaizing the home. From planning holidays and children's parties, to seasonal things like spring cleaning and gardening. There are lots of print-outs and lists to help you get started. Certainly worth checking out...good luck!

Hey Deb. Im def on the "get organised band wagon" for this year. Im with flylady as well, however I havent orginsed time to actualy look into it, hahaha.

A couple of things Im try is while I work from home and everyone is at work, daycare and school, i take 15min breaks and use them to clean up around the house. Its realy good when you have the attention span of a mouse, lol.

Ive also started to schedule stuff. Although, sometimes i forget to check the schedule. Oh well, its all a work in progress huh, lol.

Hows the flylady site working for you and what sorts of things is it useful for?
