I have a 3 and 1 year old and I am going crazy because we are cooped up in the house due to the cold weather, no car and lack of money. I feel like I want to run away which makes me feel like a horrible person/mom/wife. Do other moms ever feel this way and what do you do about it?

Yes... we all get overwhelmed at times... especially with such young ones. I have four (ages 7,5,4,2) My bottom three have an age span of 2 1/2 years total. Find ways to transform the house into a new play area. Blanket forts are a hit around here... get every blanket in the house and drape them over and between furniture. It even is an easy cleanup. Mostly the kids need a new activity and Momma needs a break (bubble bath? Night out for coffee with friends?) Most of all... you are NORMAL. we all get cabin fever from time to time. Creativity is the key, especially when finances are an issue. Crawling races? Teach them the crab walk? Fill the sink with water and dump in some ice cubes? (can be quite entertaining, but they will want to play with the ice in their glasses afterward, if they don't already) Sock puppets, with funny voices? Use an old newspaper to make funny hats? IF you can pull off a dual nap with the kids, DONT DO ANYTHING THAT IS WORK for one nap period. Use it as Mom fun time, it can be a mini-vacation at times.

yes, we all feel this way at times! mostly like you said, due to the weather, we're bored, the kids are bored, everyone's irritable and wants to get out. try finger paints or just put some newspaper on the table and let them play w/play-doh or paints or food coloring. something new and messy to amuse themselves and you can take a tv break or sit on the couch and read while they make a mess and then you can throw them in the tub later. it's good for everyone.

YOu are not alone - I definititly feel like calling it quits at times, but never ever will. Even 15 minutes outside helps, no matter how cold it is. When your that stir crazy, your adreniline is pumping enough tryin gto find a way out - everyone will be fine outseod for a little while. HOpe it helps!

I have the same problem. Last year we moved from sunny Colorado to Michigan, and just as we were finally getting settled the snow set in. With two youngsters I was going crazy, and worse, I didn't have any close friends nearby. I found a year pass to the local children's museum (Impression 5 for those of you in Michigan), church with child care, and those great play area's at the mall a saving grace for couped up little kids. I know these may not help you, since you don't have a car, but anything different seems to help. My girls particularly want to do anything I'm doing, so I've started to get them to help with chores...which is really hard because usually they undo more than they help at first, but they love learning and trying to help. (sorting laundry, washing the walls in the tub during a bath, putting peanut butter on their sandwich, or stirring cake mix) just plan on everything taking twice as long to accomplish.

One of the things I do when my life gets hectic like that is turn up some music really loud and the kids and I dance aroound the living room singing and spinning. It helps me relieve the built up stress and the kids get their energy out.If that doesnt work I bring out the play-doh or fingerpaints, set them up on the kitchen floor and take 5minutes to myself.

I agree, as much as I love being a stay at home mom, there are moments of cabin fever. Change of scenery usually works for me, I take my baby to the park or just for a walk. Finding projects to become involved in also helps for me.
