I'm new here but wanted to share my story. I wanted to home school my daughter and keep some of the brick and mortor aspects as well like teacher support; I found a happy medium. We started K-12 4 years ago. My daughter was attending our local brick and mortar school. She has Autism Spectrum Disorder, Dysgraphia, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Ehlors Danlos Syndrome, a heart defect, and was being bullied constantly. She hated school and by the 3rd grade, she had been harassed, verbally and mentally abused, and the staff and teachers did nothing to help. She was in counseling when her therapist recommended the K-12 program to us. My daughter started 4th grade with TXVA; I was scared to death. I had no experience, but the staff and teachers were there every step of the way. She was able to work at her own pace. She gets extra help in classes she needs it in and advances in those she doesn't. I can not tell you how amazed I am at the difference the k-12 program has made in my child. My once bullied, sad, struggling daughter is now in 7th grade and a member of the NJHS, president of her Girl Scout troop, President and Founder of the Sweet and Sour Lemonade Club (benefiting Alex's Lemonade Stand foundation), a past committee member for our local Relay For Life, and is trying to become a mentor to new students at TXVA. TXVA helps kids be their best. I highly recommend checking into the K-12 program!

Thank you. I believe in sharing the good and bad so others can take what they need from it and leave the rest. :)

Wow~that's so wonderful to heart your daughter is doing so well in this new program! I'm sorry she had such a bad experience in her previous school, but good for you for looking for different alternatives and finding such a good fit for her. And thanks for sharing about the program!

Absolutely! They have gone above and beyond helping with her. They work around her doctor appointments and anything else that is needed. They teachers are always a phone call or K-mail away and usually respond within 24 hours. They have online and offline course materials. The learning coach (that's you) is giving teacher guides to help. If they are still struggling, you simply ask the teacher for alternative ways to teach it. My daughter struggles with writing, so they have recently set it up so that she can use a voice recognition program. Then at STAAR testing, she can dictate to someone, and they will transcribe for her. They are required to attend certain CC's live, but if you are unable to, let the teacher know and you will be allowed to watch the recording. There is study hall for kids, parent groups, online help for both. and they even have tons of clubs they can be involved in. We love it and have been doing it for 4 years now (this is year 4). If you have any questions, please ask me. I am more than happy to help.

Your story is just what I needed to read this am! No doubt that God allowed me to stumble upon it!! I first want to tell you that you are an incredible Mom and your daughter is lucky to have you!! I have struggled with my 12 year old, but her issues are debilitating social anxiety( mainly when it comes to large groups of people), SPD, and has some trauma from some things that her elementary school tried to get her to school. She has always been very close to me and they were determined to "break her of it." But I ended up removing her from school and ventured out on my own. without getting side tracked telling you what we experienced along the way, I want to enroll her in an online school ASAP, and I keep hearing negative things about k12 as well! So you are very happy with Tx Virtual Academy?
