Well, I didn't want to, but a friend of mine had me try this: Put your baby to bed while tired, but not asleep. Say your goodnights, then leave. When they cry, wait two minutes, then go back. DO NOT PICK THEM UP. Comfort them and leave again. If they cry again, wait five minutes and repeat. Then wait seven to ten minutes. Eventually they will fall asleep.
However, this is not recommended for newborns as they need more comfort than an older baby.
Also, make sure they are well burped before putting them to bed, and when checking on them, check his diaper.
It may take a few days or weeks, but it will work. I don't believe you should just leave them to cry for hours, that is terrible. But since they know you are still there for them it makes it easier.
Good luck!!!

well i did with my 2 month old, and she is now 7 months and can go to sleep with me just putting her in her crib, and shutting the door. she also sleeps through the night. but all babies are different so this might not help for you, but its worth a try if you believe in CIO.
