My 19 month old developed this rash (for lack of a better word) on his inner thighs, literally overnight. I do not see how it could be diaper rash. He is changed constently, and it's not even anywhere a diaper covers. It's really bad though. It's red and open in places. It covers a few inches on both inner thighs, right below where his diaper is. Does anyone know what it could be from? He is getting a new tooth and it had been stupid hot here. I keep him out of the heat a lot, but he was at his older siblings' baseball game the night before the rash.

Well i would try putting a & d ointment on it just in case and as for heat rash it could be that too i know it seems weird but if it heat rash your gonna want to keep his clothes on him it absorbs the moisture and will help keep him cool and if his skin is rubbing together that will make the heat rash only get worse so like i said keep his clothes on him you can try wetting down a onesie and putting that on him to...my son use to get heat rash really bad and thats what i did for him....i would say if after doing that for a week if it hasn't went away then contact his doctor

Thanks guys! There isn't any little bumps, it's just all open and red. I called my doctor and they couldn't get him in, and wouldn't reccomend anything without seeing him. Don't you just love it when they do that? A friend said to put Lotramin (spelling?) on it. The same stuff you put on athlet's foot. LOL She said she uses it on her kids for almost everything. Well, it seems to be working on my son as well. Whatever it is is almost gone. Hoepfully it stays gone!

It could be a heat rash or something similar to jock itch. Is it characterized by little red bumps? It could also be caused by yeast. I would have a doctor look at it, especially if it's red and open in places. Hope it gets better soon.

Definitely call the doc's office, but it sounds like a heat rash or yeast. My children suffer from eczema as well, but mostly on inner arms, backs of thighs, etc. There are different creams to use on all, so calling them will help.

Hi it could be a yeast infection. Another possibility is he had something on over the diaper that rubbed the spots to make them sore and open. My son had something like this years ago and the doctor gave me a tube of Miconazole to apply. You can wash him with Johnson's baby wash and rinse thoroughly --put him in training pants (CLOTH) or regular boys underwear and dust his inner thighs in corn starch or Johnsons baby powder with corn starch. If this helps to calm it and dry it then he probaby just had something rub the area and inflame it. If it doesn't help within 4 hours call the doctor and ask advice. Hope this helps.

I would call your Pedi's office and ask to talk to their nurse. She/He would probably know what it is, and give you a decent idea of what to do about it. (baby powder, rash creams, etc.) It's free, and you don't even have to go anywhere. :)
