My husband and I are having trouble getting preg. We had no trouble with our son it happened on our first try. For some reason though we cannot get preg this time. Not sure if I am just being impatient or what, but we have been trying since March and still nothing. I took the Depo shot for 6 months after I had my son. Could that be why it is taking so long now? If it is how long will it take? I can still get preg right? :,( please help!

Thought I would answer some questions: I have not been taking prenatals. I cannot swollow a pill very well so it makes me sick to take prenatals. Also my husband does wear boxers haha! Yes it has only been 3 months that we have been trying but we only tried one time with our son and it worked. His oldest brother has 7 kids and the other 4 and they all have never had a problem even after stopping birth control. Also I know some of you said to count you cycle. I've never done that because I cant figure out how to do it. Like when to start counting. Also I have tried the diets thinking maybe that was it. I haven't been stressing about it lately or really even thinking about it. But when I don't think about it I don't wanna have sex. Haha I'm not sure why though. I think I will ask my doctor about the pre-seed. Thanks. Anything I missed?

One more update I'm 9 days late! Cross your fingers!!!

Kassi, I am now pregnant with my 3rd child, at 42 years old. With my 3 year old, it only took 3 months for me to fall pregnant, but this time, it was after a year and a half.

But, what I wanted to tell you, is that I had decided not to use fertility treatments, until I "found" a completely natural one, called "Fertility Blend for Women" (bought online from GNC). It says on the info that you should expect to wait at least 3 months for it to make any affect, but I was pregnant after only 1 month! I can only say that this is an excellent supplement and it only has natural vitimins, etc, so it wouldn't hurt for you to take it anyway! I was feeling the same as you before I started taking this.....changing my diet, feeling stressed, etc. I hope this helps you! Good luck...

I havent read all the replies (so I dont know if anyone has mentioned this yet), but have you tried the ovulation prediction kit? We got pregnant with our first child the fist month we tried without it, but it took about 5 months of trying to get pregnant with the second. It wasnt until I used the ovulation test strips that I conceived right away. As the mother of a toddler, I rarely have the energy for sex. The ovulation predictor is great because you know just when you get the most bang for your buck, so to speak!

Hope this is helpful and good luck getting pregnant. It'll happen!

The shot takes a while to wear off...I used red rasberry tea (get it from a health food store) and red clover, and got pregnant 3 times in five years. It is amazing how it works. Also, vitamin E in soft gel form will regulate your cycle, and you will get pregnant quickly. Progestrone cream helps also...hope this helps

I also have heard and read if you have sex every day it lowers the sperm count. The dr's say it's best to have sex every other day

I am in the same situation!! My husband and I have a 2 1/2 year old boy, who we conceived on our first try, but we have been trying for a second baby for months now :-( It is just heart breaking, I cant understand whats going on, and I dont want our son to be an only child. I have been counting days for when to "do it" lmao, but hubby is in the army so there are some months where he is away at those times. I know everyone says to stop trying and it will happen, but I dont know how to stop trying, i want another baby so bad :-(

You've been trying since march? like, as in march 2010? Three months is nothing to worry about. It took us half a year! Give it a full year before you start to worry. As for timing your cycle, I hated that too so when I was trying to get pregnant I used this:

Good luck!

As an herbalist I would start drinking red rassberry tea.. Stop taking prenatal vitamins. They are full of inorganic nutrients that your body can't process. That is why most of us women when given that stuff throw up during pregnancy. Next change your diet and your husbands. Eat less meat and dairy. Try to stay away from processed foods. If your body is too acidic that kills the sperm as it enters the vagina. If your husband is too acidic that can cause low sperm count or weak swimmers. Some women will douce with wheatgrass juice just before making love. That will help ensure you are not killing the sperm. Douche with a base to balance your acidity. A good herbalist can go into more detail and help you more if you need to go to the next level.

Sex every day is where you are going wrong. It took us a year (and I was 22) to get pregnant with our first...one day I finally just said "WHATEVER" had a nice cold margarita and got pregnant that night (I know this because I was an avid calendar note maker, lol). So...after having our first bundle of joy I would have never thought that it would only take one time...ONE TIME...to get pregnant with our second....7 weeks postpartum!!! I count myself lucky that it happened that way because if we waited then I am sure it would have taken forever.

Hang in there! It will happen! I agree with every one else...stop stressing and go have a massage or pedicure! I saw you say you had a hard time with pills...the prenatal at walmart are MUCH smaller then the nasty ones you get from prescription. If any thing get a bottle of folic acid. Those are like baby aspirin.

Do it days 12 to 16 of your cycle, and do it at night-time, and don't move afterwards, gravity is bad. Sleep for a few hours! Took me almost two years to learn the latter, I was having serious trouble, but then- bam, baby came along. Then another one when I was ready!

This is gonna sound weird but Walmart sells prenatal vitiams over the counter you'll find them in the vitiam isle... my friend recently had her second misscarriage and she explained to her doctor that she wanted to get pregnant again she really wants a baby and her doctor told her to take prenatal vitiams while trying to concieve. Shes going to try it when here husband gets back from Iraq but maybe you could see if that helps. Good luck!

I counted 14 days from the 1st day of my last period. We tried on the 13, 14, & 15th days & it worked 4 times. I only have 2 children because of 2 miscarriges, but I've been pregnant 4 times! It works! That's the "ovulation" period!

It has only been three months on adverage it takes 6 months to fall pregnant. Be patient and enjoy yourself it will happen but only if you are relaxed and calm. Fingers crossed.

I agree with everyone else, don't stress about it. Have fun with your husband. It is probably just taking a while to get the shot out of your system. A lot of birth control methods say it could take up to a year for you to get pregnant after stopping them. Everyone I know who had problems getting pregnant, got pregnant when they stopped trying. It just happened. Just keep doing what you're doing. I would suggest going to a doctor if you do not get pregnant after a year of trying. Are you taking prenatal vitamins? I hear that helps to prepare your body for the baby. I have also heard about this pre-seed cream that you can use to make sure the sperm sticks around longer, and you have more chances of getting pregnant. Hang in there, stay positive and don't stress too much. It will happen :)

secondary infertility is very common much more so than infertility the first time around! trust me i had both! 18 mths for my first son then 2 and a half yrs for my second and after 3 rounds of clomid too!! perservere and if it does not happen within a year then go to your doctor to be referred to a specialist hopefully it will happen within the year most people need at least 6 mths to a year for it to happen!! good luck!!

from what iwas told when i was on the depo it can take up to a year for the shot to completly wear off. take prenatal vitamins and folic acid and remember to have fun trying dont stress cause that wont help. just eat right exercise and have fun it will happen when it happens enjoy the ride.

[deleted account]

I had no prob getting pregnant with my son after I got off the depo but everyone's body is diff. I got told from my ob/gyn that it would take me maybe a year to get pregnant but when I got off it a month later I found out I was pregnant with my now 6 month old son. I just recently went back on it and my husband and I are waiting 2-3 years down the road to have another baby. I hope the best for you!!!

Take a vacation! The lack of stress and sleeping in late (and morning and evening and afternoon and middle of the night sex) did it for me twice =). Never been on the shot myself ( was consistantly on the pill for 6 years), but if you have already been off for a while relaxing and taking some time to just be together (with no worries or kids- remember how easy it is to get pregnant when you aren't even thinking about it) could be the ticket.
Good luck

I was in the same boat after being on the Depo shot I started taking it after I had my first daughter and I was on the shot for 6 yrs. which your really not suppose to be anyways. I stopped taking the shot in hoping to get pregnant well my period never came back and it was going on a year at this point. I went to the doctors and it turned out I was having other difficulties as to why I was not getting pregnant so I had to have multiple surgeries to remove tumors and endrimitrious and I also did fertility treatments by taking chlomid which you could end up with multiples but at that point me and my husband wanted a baby so it was worth the risk, this was all during a five year span after being off he shot. The doctor told me at this point I would never have anymore children. So I accepted this well 5 yrs later I got pregnant and every since never had a problem. I had three more pregnancies. I would say once you get your cycle back on track you should have no problem getting pregnant. Its just that shot is no good it can take a long time for everything to come back no matter how long you have been on it. I am actually surprised they are still giving them shots out. I know my doctor does not recommend that anymore to his patients. Good luck to you

It took me six years in between my first and second. Three miscarriages in between too. Infertility after the first child is not uncommon. Thankfully, not a permanent condition. Do you chart via the Family Planning Method. I used it and got pregnant each month I wanted to, no birth control needed. Also, if you follow that and chart your cycle, guaifenesin (over the counter med in the cough and cold section.) Not to be gross, it helps things travel to where they need to go. Make sure you wait at least 20 minutes for all the little parts to get where they need to go before doing anything to interrupt their goal. That was said as delicate as I know how.

I forgot to say that I had the depo shot just once. It took me almost 2 years to get a "normal" menstrual cycle for me, a normal for one for me at least. I wasn't trying to get pregnant then, but remember these shots really mess with our normal body rhythms so it will take awhile to go back to normal.

It took me eight months with my second child and only two months with my first. I was also on the depo shot prior to both children. With both children I waited 6 months after the shot to make sure it was all out of my system. My doctor told me I was possibly having problems ovulating (why now, I don't know) but any way she prescribed me Femara which helps regulate ovulation. It helps with pregnancy but is not like Chlomid where you might be concerned with multiples. I got pregnant on the first round of Femara, right off the bat. They are pills you take right before you ovluate. Real easy.

The shot probably has to do with it. I took the shot before having kids and i took it for 2 1/2 yrs. I had stop the shot and it took me 2 yrs to get preggo. But i lost the baby, actually i lost 2 babies before becoming succesfull with my 1st daughter. Now i had 2 beautiful little girls 2yrs and 7 months.
Good luck!

this is what my doctor told me when i started the depo after i had my daughter. my doctor told me it can talk anywhere from six months to a year to get pregnant after u stop using the depo shot. so of course i asked her does it make a difference depending on how long i have been using the depo shot? she told me no. she said u can use the depo shot once and it still can take 6 months to a year to get pregnant afterwards. i know some doctors may say different but thats what mine said maybe that helps. talk to ur doctor see what they say

Exercise helps, a good diet and no being stressed out. If you got to babyfit, it will give you some advice on diet for men and women who are trying to get pregnant.

If you not so focused on having a baby, it really helps. I was focused on having a baby. Then I would get upset when I wasn't pregnant. After reading that you need to relax about it, I did that. I said it will happen when it happens. The next time I ovulated, we got down to business and I said to him, that is the one. I found out I was pregnant a couple of weeks later.

If you use a lubricant, many of the make it harder or prevent sperm from reaching the cervix. There is a lubricant that helps, it is called pre-seed. I know someone who used it and they conceived a baby. She has fertility problems.

Don't give up, but don't stress out. Relax, breathe and enjoy your family and it will happen when you least expect it.

I agree with Christina! DON'T STRESS! I was having a hard time getting preggers with #2 and was in the same boat. I wanted them close and I wanted to be pregnant NOW! The one month where I didn't plan out our sex life and every minute of it based on my cycle BAM! Here came baby #2. So take a deep breath, have a glass of wine, stop counting the days and it will happen for you. Good Luck Momma!

Thank you. The only reason I worry if because my husband and the men in his family can look at their wife and get them preg. And now its like it doesn't matter what we do it won't work. I just don't want to wait for it to happen I would like it to happen now! I would like my kids close in age and the longer it takes the less likely it looks like they will be close in age. Oh and Kimberly my doctor didn't want me to stop taking the shot I just didn't go back to get it.

i had secondary infertility problems. it took 2 yrs and a infertility specialist. i would suggest you start by going to your ob gyn and ask for a hormone level check to be done. then go from there.

I have heard horrible things about the Depo shot causing people to have trouble concieving for awhile afterwards. I thought they didn't do it anymore for short term? Anyway Dr's don't consider it as a problem unless it has been over a yr, or 6 months if you are older than 35. You could use an OPK, ovulation predictor kit, to see if you are ovulating. I had great success with a saliva opk you only have to buy it once and you can use it forever. Then you would be able to tell if the Depo shot has worn off, and when you ovulate. You can usually get pregnant if you babydance 3 days before, the day of and the day after you ovulate. Good luck to you. Btw I had my 1st child by IUI and injectables after almost 4 yrs and my 3rd child by Clomid.

how long ago did you stop taking the shot? my dr said it could take 6 months or longer to get preggers after stopping the shot. They also have tests at walmart or wherever to tell you when your most fertil day are... so get busy on those days lol But yes you can still get preggers after the shot, I was on the shot for 4 years and when I stopped wham! i was preggers lol I would take the test and plan your day around it :)
