I have a seven yr old girl a one n a half yr old son and a two month old son. Since we've had the new baby my one n a half yr has required constant attn. If I can't hold him all day and entertain him all day he crystal screams and throws temper tantrums. It's to the point that doing dishes or cooking us almost impossible. This is really wearing on me. I've tryedmaking Him my big boy helper and including him but it doesn't work. Does anyone have any suggestions ? And how long will this last?

My girls are not quite so close, but I encourage you to give him as much attention and affection as you possibly can. If someone can look after the baby for even 20 minutes and you can give ALL of your attention to your toddler, he will feel reassured that he still has a place in your heart.

The best advice I got when my second was born is this: "now you have TWO babies. Not one little baby and one big girl - but TWO babies."

I find that the moments when I am the most exasperated, is usually when I want my children to "rise to the occasion", but young children don't seem to have that ability and it can be unfair to ask it of them.

Keep doing what you are doing and give your little guy the time he deserves to grow up. He's probably not ready to be the big boy helper just yet.

Thanks for the advice. It will just take ti
e I guess. My youngest was born premature. I was on bed rest half the pregnancy. And in the hospital for a week before he was born. That was hard on my middle child. After my youngest was born he was in the hospital for almost a month. And I would have to leave to see the baby. Now that he's home I'm working on getting things back to normal. And it breaks my heart that my older baby is struggling with this. Also my new baby requires some extra care due to prematurity. But they r only babys for so long...
