Help! My little one fights me at naptime!

My little gal (11 months old) used to be a pretty good napper (one hour in the morning and two hours in the afternoon). Within the last week or so, she has started standing up in her crib instead of laying down at naptime. She used to just lay down with no problems, but now she keeps getting up, even after I repeatedly lay her down. She normally naps in a port-a-crib in the living room, but I have even tried putting her in her crib upstairs (we live in a one-room loft). It has taken anywhere from 45-90 minutes for her to fall asleep. Yesterday she screamed for 35 minutes straight. I might assume that maybe she doesn't need as much sleep as I think she does, but yesterday (after a 30 min nap in the morning and a one hour nap in the afternoon) she started to become really cranky at about 7 pm. Today I thought that I would not lay her down for a nap in the morning and maybe just do the afternoon nap, but at 10:30 she became extremely fussy and fell asleep in my lap while watching TV. I am becoming really frustrated, especially since naptime is really my only time to get things done. Any suggestions? I really need some help!

have you checked for an ear infection? sometimes that can make it painful to lay down. also she is at an age that she is starting to realize she doesnt have to do what mommy says, she can do what she wants if she really wants to. she can control her body. the teddy bear idea was a good one, only at sleep times. has her activity level dropped much with the cold weather? she may just not feel as tired. and maybe try giving her a good rubdown with bedtime lotion.

My son Noah, who is 11 months also, has been doing the same thing, except I can't get him to stay awake past 5:00pm (And if you don't know, this completely sucks, because he'll wake up at about 5:00am then) anyhow, I would love some suggestions from other mommas because I'm at my whits end also!

I read that at 11 months babies still need about 2-3 hours sleep during the day, try putting her down 3 hours after she has woken up in the morning also does she have something to go to bed with? like a teddy or a blanket? I find that when i give my son his little teddy he knows that its nap time or sleep time and will whinge for a bit but then drift off holding it. Its not a teddy he gets to have all the time only at sleep times.

good luck
