How do I get my 6 month old to sleep in her crib not the swing?

i had this problem with my first child. she was so used to me rocking her to sleep, that she would not fall asleep unless i did it every night for at least 45 minutes. It was so tiresome. I basically did the same thing Michele did, put them down in the crib for a certain period of time to let them know that they are safe there, and they get comfortable with just laying there. Sooner or later, they'll fall asleep on their own in their own crib without needing to be rocked or swayed to sleep :) good luck though!

When i made the transition from the bassinet to her crib I first put her in there when she was awake to get her familiar with it, then started to lay her down at nap time. Once she fell asleep I put her down in the crib. She went 5 mins, 7, 12, then 40. Once we reached 40 mins. we gave it a shot at night time & it worked great.

I used to walk with a swaying motion when my kids were little. When their little arms were hanging down and swaying with the motion,I knew they were asleep and I got to be really good at putting them down without them waking up.I would leave some kind of noise going in the background to get them used to sleeping through anything.I could run the vaccuum without them waking up.Hope this may help.
