help. i just started my 6 month old (exclusively breastfed before) on solids last week and he seems to want no part of it. he wont even try it sometimes. i can get him to eat it on occasion when i have made it fresh but many times from the fridge he wont even let it get to his lips. i have tried it cold, room temp and heated. he still turns away or pushes the spoon away. how long did it take for your child to start eating solids. what methods did you use. when did you do it compared to the breast? how long do i keep him in the chair and try?

I would wait a week and try again. Maybe he is just not ready. Eventually he will eat (you don't see any adults living on liquid diets, it is in our genes to eat solids). Try some neat stuff, like sliced bananas, cut into quarters, mashed sweet potatoes, cheerios, etc for him to play with while you spoon in the runny stuff. My baby ate baby food for one month then went cold turkey to finger foods.

jayden loved avocados. he would only eat them at first. he still is kinda a picky eater. you can also try puffs. they basically melt in your mouth and then you dont have to worry about a spoon and he starts to practice eating too. good luck. i know you pain. let me know how it is going and if you need any advive.

M son just turned 6 months on 12/25 and is not interested in solids or eating off the spoon. So far, I've tried rice cereal, oatmeal cereal, oatmeal cereal w/bananas and sweet potatoes.

i would mix rice cereal to a near milk consistancey with breast milk then once he take that make it thicker and thicker. then add other foods that are hard to get runny on there own.

he may just not want what you are giving him because he doesn't know what it is. every child is different. if he doesn't like the rice cereal try a different type.... just make sure you space it out about three days for reaction purposes.my daughter didn't like any cereal but when i gave her fruits and veggies she loved them. now she is 11 months and eats everything we eat. don't worry it just takes time......just think of it from his prospective........are you just going to jump right in on foods you have never seen before.

My daughter was excusively breastfed til she was 6 months old also. I had some problems feeding her solids and i just waited about a week before i re-introduced the solids back to her and she has been doing great ever since. She really likes the rice cereal especially with apple juice mixed in. I always nurse her before i put her in her high chair for her " real meal" I usually wait about 20 minutes before i give her the solids after nursing. When she is showing signs of disinterest in the food i know she is done and i clean her up and take her out of the chair. I also tell her that she is doing a good job when she is eating really well i find that positive reinforcement works really good with her. Good luck, I hope my info helps

I remeber my son didnt' want any part of it either. We started him out with the rice cereal and I remember we had to have it really watered down so it was close to the consitency of milk but slightly thicker and we fed that to him at room temp with a spoon. Once he started taking that then I began mixing some apple sauce in with the cereal and gradually making it thicker. After about a week and half he took to the solid food much better. Hope that helps.
