I jsut want to make anyone and everyone aware that midwife attended homebirth is becoming illegal as of July next year...if you are passionate about choices in childbirth PLEASE sign the online petition :)

I would also love to hear from mums who have had this experience.

well the government is introducing law where all practitioner must be insured (this is a good thing), problem is that they refuse to insure independent mids. so a midwife attended homebirth after July next year will be illegal in this country after july next year. The midwife will face a fine of up to $30,000 and up to 2 yrs in jail, the family will also face a fine of up to $30,000.

this leaves women with a few choices, we can either go to hospital against our will (i won't be doing this), we can find a midwife who will do it anyway and run that risk (there are a few who will do this), we can have a "friend" attend (who is a midwife but doesn't claim to be as such lol), or we can freebirth.

lots of people will be considering freebirth (me included) as a viable option despite the fact that it is far from ideal (but so are all teh other options)

the link below is a youtube one but he describes wuite well what is happening and also has some great links in the sidebar that explain further

hiya well i have no clue about the laws elsewhere but i live in scotland, united kingdom. and i havent heard of this. and i delivered my second son at home 14months ago. i hope they dont make it illegal as i cant see what the problem is really!! as long as mum and baby are not at any risk there shouldnt be any problem having yr baby at home.

let me know as im quite interested. thanks.

Yeah where? Not really into the home birth thing but I don't like my rights being taken away!

Ummm...what state? Country, what? No, I have not heard of that, nor has my homebirth midwife heard of that. And she is very active in the political sector. We live in New Hampshire.
