Wal Mart sells plaster hand print kits for around $12-$15.  I don't remember the price exactly...been awhile since I bought one.  It comes with everything you need to make impressions of your kids' hand or foot (depending on the size of the foot lol).  There are 3 heart shaped molds in the kit, one large and two smaller ones.  I did one of these with my friend's 7 year old daughter for her Mom for Christmas and she loved it.  When it dries, you can paint it and decorate it and it even has hooks to hang it on the wall.

If you don't want to buy the kit, you can also make your own plaster of paris at home with a few simple ingredients.  There is one recipe that is glue and water and another that is flour and water.  Here's a link on how to make the plaster : http://www.essortment.com/hobbies/makepl...

Here's a website for making the molds at home : http://www.ehow.com/how_4464284_make-pla...

I've made my own molds from large cookie cutters.  Basically, the mold is just something to put clay into so that you can press down an object (like your child's hand) into to make the shape you want.  Have fun!

P.S.  Forgot to warn you...it's a little messy but the kids LOVE it!  Just make sure they either wear a smock or clothes that you don't mind getting messed up.   I recommend covering the table you're using with newspaper and keep a roll of paper towels handy.  I wouldn't do it on any type of carpet.  :)

a plain photo album that the boys can decorate is great (puffy paint, glitter, stickers) then you and the boys can choose a page worth of pictures for each one to start them off. my parents loved them! (we have 5 kids, so we LOVE homemade gifts to give!) my older kids also put on a fashion show and play that I videotaped and sent to far away grandparents--they loved it~!

I have 3 boys that love to play in the dirt and to watch things grow, so I went to walmart and purchased some 2.00 pots in different colors and then let each little guy pick out a package of flowers for I think .25.  I got a large bag of soil and we will start our seeds in about 3 weeks.  When mother's day comes around we will  have the grandmothers gifts from each child.  They will be very cute and and a great gift. Plsu they aren't very expensive and my boys have a blast!!

They can each make a picture frame decorated with their favorite things or their accomplishments and then put a great pic inside, or they could make world's greatest grandma and aunt shirts: I saw at the store tshirts that said " Greatest Aunt or GRandma Hand down and then on the shirt was the handprints of the child , using permanent fabric paint. I did this project for my relatives and it was afordable and personable. I hope you come up with something great. :)
