homeschool ideas for pre k

any ideas on helping me prepare my son who is 5 and will start k this fall 2010.. anyone have any stuctured idea of a daily plan on learning etc????

I agree that reading to him is very helpful. Also you if you can find flashcards with sight words, that helps too. I play games with my First grader still with flashcards. It keeps them interested when it is fun! Good luck! !

Read to him a lot. Purchase math and spelling workbooks at the store that have fun activities for him to do so he will WANT to do them.

When I was preparing my son for Kindergarten I used the Hooked on Phonics Pre-K tools and worked with him every week day for a few hours each day. I also used the Brain Quest worksheets and flashcards. The important thing for me was to find a balance of preparing him but not overwhelming him. I generally had him do his work a few hours after breakfast because that is the time I found him to focus the most. I tried to change things up to keep him interested. I made a chart that had art on certain days, etc. so that every day was something different. Needless to say the academic standards for the schools in our area were disappointingly low so when he started school he was far more advanced than other students and I ended up pulling him out to home school him at a more appropriate pace that challenged him.
