How do I get my 5 year old son to stay out of my bed?

I am a single parent and I know that I should have stopped him from sleep with me years ago. I have recently been putting him to bed in his own bed but when i wake up he is in bed with me. What should I do?

Everytime he climbs in you take him back to his own bed. without ANY compromise or you send a mixed message. If you never wake up I would consider locking your door...not his. If there really was a safety issue he would make a lot of noise. If he hammers on the door. Open it and take him calmly back to bed. The learning curve on kids is a pretty short term thing if parents are consistent. Responding to and answering him takes the fear out of it. Any tantrums will only happen if he is mad. Yes he might get mad but if we always parented so our kids didn't get mad we would be lousy parents.

lol show him how cool his room is put some nice night lights in there and tell him sleeping in the bed with mommy is for babies and if he wants to act like a baby your gonna have to treat him like 1 lol that will def work . My son just turned 6 two weeks ago he sleeps in his own room now but I had to show he was a boy and I also need my privacy. So we came to an understanding he doesnt wanna be treated like a baby and I need my privacy .

I agree with Kelly. Be persistent and take him back to his bed. If there is something more going on that he is wanting to be with you (ie. afraid of the dark), he will let you know and just reassure him that everything is okay and he will be fine.

He has just gotten so use to being with you at night. It is likely just a comfort thing. If you just keep putting him in his own bed, he will get it after a bit that that is where he is suppose to be.
