Hi there,

It is time for him to adjust to a new routine before it becomes a habit. Very smart for you to pick up on it early and ask for help.

Something to try

*Adjust his bed time to a little earlier. If he usually goes down past 8 put him down at 7:30 - sounds crazy I know, but he may actually be over tired. The waking to play can come from not getting deep rim sleep. He isn't getting a good full sleep cycle in. Chances are he takes little cat naps rather than a real good single nap during the day?

7:30 will allow you to settle him in with a routine in which he begins to supply a little of his own efforts. After answering all his needs place him in bed with night light and soft music. I just the baby soother with ceiling projector. It will allow him to sooth himself and find comfort in just relaxing. You may wish to just let him fuss briefly. When he sees that you are calm and relaxed (that is the most important component of bed time!) He will mirror your calm and relaxed state. If he starts to cry, get to him immediately and calm him. Stroke his back, kiss him, hug him and then back down he goes, without taking him out of the room. If you remain in the room with him when he wakes up each time he will find it less fun
