How do I get my son to fall asleep on his own?

My 14 month old son used to sleep 8-10 hours a night, but within the last two weeks, my husband and I have been waking up with him in the middle of the night for an hour or more (usually two to three hours). At first it was teething, but now I think he's getting into the habit of nursing in the middle of the night again. He screams if we don't go in there right away and is really hard to get calmed down. He doesn't fall asleep on his own, which, I know, is a problem. I usually breastfeed him or my husband walks around the room bouncing him. We're both stressed and sleep deprived. Do you have any tips on how to get him to fall asleep and stay asleep on his own?

gotta break the habit...He is way to old for this now.....many ways to do this but I believe in the hard but works within a day or two...Talk to your doctor to find the best thing for you. Also make sure he is getting good naps in during the day (2-4hrs) sleep begets sleep!
