How do stay home moms find friends?

Since moving to a new town nearly 5 years ago I have found it really difficult to make friends. 5 years of being lonely is starting to take its toll on me. I don't like the phony "meetings" where you act like your best friends but then never really hang out afterwards....any suggestions?

I have found putting myself out there and calling the other ladies I meet here and there helps build those friendships. I totally understand where you are coming from. After time it's become so hard to make friends, I needed friends though. And the more I'm willing to call or talk to people, even though I don't really know them, it's gotten easier and easier to make friends.

Hello, I am very new here but your post made me feel for you. I am in the exact same situation, I have lived in a place for 5 years and have not been able to connect with other women. The last few days, I've been wracking my brain trying to figure out why. I wonder if it is because Stay at Home Moms are rare?

It was easier for me to meet mothers when my children were baby age and small, but now that they are older it is not. MOPS was a very helpful group to me when I had babies, but there seems to be no equivalent for older mothers. Huh, maybe that's an idea lol.

Is there a newcomers club in your town? Go to your town hall and ask. The library is a great way to meet new people. They usually offer adult programs, as well as children's programs. Join the local Y or other Rec Center and get involved in some activities. Volunteer for your town or school, again town hall will be able to guide you. Be brave and invite another mom over next time you are at an event and she seems cool and someone who you could be friends with. A little effort and a smile goes a long way! Good luck!
