Loneliness sounds too pessimistic. Instead, think peaceful. Go for a walk, sit outside with a good book. Call a friend, without having to tell the kids to 'please quiet down'. Finish the housework. Garden, bake, anything you want.

If all of your kids are school-age, you've earned some free time. Just enjoy it.

Get online and blog. Be a part of your PTO/PTA. There is so much volunteer work you can do at school. Make menus for breakfasts/lunches/ dinners, become a coupon queen by clipping and categorizing. Make a schedule for cleaning and house chores, make one day of the week MOM day. Have lunch with the kids or bring them a hot favorite home cooked meal. Have lunch with friends or hubby; or both!

Reading always helps. Volunter at the classroom if you are able it fun and you get to see the kids.

I just remind myself they will be home by 4pm to drive me up the wall again. :-)

Shopping also helps, since its much more enjoyable when you dont hear every 3 minutes "Mom can we get this?"

Oh and my totaly fav, is when I look around my home and realized its stayed spotless for more then 30 minutes!
