How long does a Steam cleaned carpet take to dry?

My daughter's birthday party is tomorrow and people will be showing up around noon. I really would like to steam clean the carpets before everyone shows up, however I'm worried the carpet will still be wet around that time. I'm just planning on cleaning around furniture, I just bought the bissell proheat and my carpet is medium length. How long do you estimate it will take for the carpet to dry?

I think it takes about 2 hours. I'd allow for 4 though. When my mom would use her old bissell (like 10 years old). It would take about 5-6 hours for it to be dry. I've heard that their new ones dry quicker since they use less water (no idea if that is true though).

thanks for the comments, I may just skip the dry cleaning and just vacuum it real good.

We have the bissell proheat as well, but when we do our carpets we always do them at night and by morning they are dry. but you can buy a resolve moist powder that makes it look just as clean and helps with pet stains and all you need is a stiff brush and a vaccuum. You sprinkle it on use the brush to brush it into the carpet, let dry 20-30 minutes and vacuum, volia its clean and dry in the amount of time it takes to vacuum!

Oh I have the Bissell Proheat and I love it!! I usually steam the carpets right before I go to bed and they are mostly dry by the time everyone gets up the next day. Now I do leave the celing fan on as well as a rotating floor fan, and depending on the weather sometimes I leave the windows open as well.

I only know about professionally done jobs, as that's what my husband does. For him, it takes only a few hours usually, and should never take more than 24 hours if done properly. Of course, he's got professional truck mounted equipment, 12 years experience, extensive training, and does it everyday! Make sure you follow the directions of your machine to a t, and, actually, cold air holds less moisture, so if you have a/c, that could help speed dry time.

It really depends on how hot it is in the house as to how long it takes to touch dry. If you are from somewhere warm where you can open the doors and windows and let the breeze through the house the carpet should be dry within 24 hours.
