How much do you have your TV on during the day??? I'm just curious to see where I fall in the mix.

I always have the TV on to one of the music/audio channels without images. My son is 13 months and almost never watches TV. I put it on for him a couple weeks ago and plunked him on the couch to keep him still and relaxed because he had a stomach bug. But that's pretty much it.

well...my tv is on pretty much all day long. My son and I don't necessarily watch it but it's nice to have a background noise. I know I should probably just put on some music but I never think of that.(I live in an apartment and I have to deal with the kids stomping around above me all day so I have to have something on to stay sane!!!!)

I let my toddlers watch an hour of diego in the morning after breakfast while I clean up a bit and get their baby sister settled, but then they play or go outside on the playground or work on an art project, and recently I started them both on little bits of schoolwork since they will be starting preschool soon. In the evenings, they get to pick a movie my husband and I have ok-ed before hand and watch while I clean up again and make dinner. It averages 1 and a half to 2 and a half hours a day, but on weekends they dont watch at all, we visit the zoo or play outside all day or go for short hikes, and they are very active and intelligent, so I'm not worried at this point. One thing I would mention as well, my childrens pediatrician actually recommended diego or other kid friendly video games for an hour every so often to develop better hand-eye coordination as well, and later when starting reading, he recommended fun comics. :) Just as long as your kids don't cry for it all the time and still get out and play, I wouldn't worry too much.

my son is 4 months old, so it's just me watching tv. i try not to turn it on until the afternoon, around 3 or so. but then it's probably on until 10, not that i'm watching the entire time. it's just nice to have on sometimes when i'm nursing or putting the baby down for a nap.

It's common for us to not have the TV on for a day or two at a time, sometimes 3 or 4 in the summer. I don't really let our kids watch TV programs, just movies that my husband & I have previously seen & ok-ed for our kids to watch. So if the TV is on it's on for about an hour to an hour and a half.

I used to have the tv on all day, because my children would only watch for a few seconds before they were off running and playing again. A couple months ago, they started sitting and watching it for a long time, so I just made it a rule that they are only allowed to watch a half hr a day. Sometimes I will put it on for a little longer if I need a little extra time getting a shower or talk on the phone(they can get very loud and roudy when they are playing), and some days they dont watch any at all. It works really great as a punishment, because they now know that it is a privaledge and they have to earn it, or tv time will be taken away for a week or longer.
