You could try one of those child leashes. They give the child afeeling of independance, but you still have the security of keeping them within reach.

Make sure you're not dragging him along at 100 miles an hour. Look at his little legs, kids are practically running to keep up with an adult walking.

He probably thinks this is what will happen so puts up a fight.

If you're going to have your son on foot, make sure you leave plenty of time to move at a 1 year old's pace. If he knows you are considering him, and moving at his pace, he might start to trust you again.

All great advice above, try the back pack thing and see how that goes or just insist he stay in the pram... give him a snack or something to occupy him... it's so hard, I really understand. Boys are harder in that way - for me anyway... I have 3 girls 1 boy and theboy gave me a hard time pram wise from the time he turned 1.... inshallah he will get better in time.... You could also with a firm voice say "no you stay in the pram" etc etc... I think being so young, you have to distract, give him something to keep him busy and avoid being too long in non child friendly areas. good luck . :D

Give him a simple choice. Either he holds onto your hand, or he gets put into a stroller/carried. No exceptions. He'll fight you for a while, but he'll get the point eventually.

William was the same way. When he'd sit down I'd say "Ok well then mommy has to carry you." or "I guess you have to sit in the stroller." he was very angry at first but now he holds my hand instead of not being able to walk.

not all kids like holding hands if this is your first then youy could try one of those monkey backpacks that you put on there back and there tail is the handle, my sisterin law has one for her little girl and it looks realy cute also they cant run away. if you have a little one teach the older one to hold on to the pram instead hope this give you some ideas.good luck

For his own safety, you need to hang on to him in certain places. Hold his wrist, if he just sits ... I'm sorry, but you have to pick him up. Make up some kind of a game with a reward system for holding hands. They make baby harnesses, too. Remember that YOU are the grown-up. You already won this battle. Be firm and patient.
