I can't get my 10 1/2 month old to sleep! Help!

I have a 10 month old and I can't seem to get him to sleep unless he's laying in my arms! He has never slept through the night but within the last 2 weeks it's getting worse... he'll fall asleep while I'm rocking him and then as soon as I lay him in his crib he wakes up screaming. I've tried to let him cry it out but that just makes things worse, he gets even more clingy. I've tried to pat him while he lays so he can fall asleep on his own but he won't stay laying down and he screams constantly until I pick him up! I can't survive this much longer please someone help!

I went through this with my son. At 1yr I had to train him to sleep through the night/naps. He too would scream bloody murder when I laid him down. My Ped.DR. gave me this suggestion...Lay them down and leave the room, wait 5min, go in pat their back and say calming things then leave(don't pick them up and only stay a minute). Repeat in 10min, 15min...as long as it takes. It may take a week or so of CONSISTANCY. It may seem like it makes things worse at first, but I promise it's better in the long run. It only took a couple days for my son and he's slept great ever since. The longer you let it go the more he thinks he needs you to sleep. Don't give in, kids are smart, they figure us out really quick! I understand how hard and tiring it is. Please try it...I hope it helps. If you need to talk more feel free to send me a message!
