Kelly, I also have twin boys that are repeating first grade. One of them is speech delayed, and learning disabled. It was a very difficult decision to make, but so far so good. At first, one of them was upset because he wanted to be with his friends in 2nd grade, but they have made new friends and he hardly talks about it anymore..

Yeah, I agree with MIchelle. Working with children is very different than raising them. I work with special needs children, but I would never act like I know what it's like to raise them. Plus, children are different and what works for one child, may not work for all children..

well I need some suggestions..O have twin boys..not identical, they are 7. Currently they have been at a Charter school and are in second grade. They are both struggling. First and foremost they both struggle with reading. I take a lot of the responsibility here as I left there father in February of their kindergarten year, never an easy decision. Also my Mother had passed from cancer 18 days after their 4th Birthday and I was devasted by this. One of the boys has had an IEP since age 3 and 1/2 due to delayed speech. Neither child is autictic but honestly it has taken me awhile to find balance with structure and routine. With the recent results of their NWEa scores and samples of their work it had been decidid that the best coarse of action is to have them go back and redo first grade. I am okay with this but one child is devasted. He is also very sensitive and cries very easily...I am thinking that it would be best for them to go to a new school . Not have the embarrasment of returning to a grade below and deal with a that. anyone have any thoughts on this?

And we are all Mothers of children from all ages so we have plenty of experience as well. Working with children is a lot different to raising them.
