I'm going to attempt a diaper cake hobby ... Any moms successful at this?

I've worked for 10 years and just recently made the decision with my husband to stay home with our kids. I love being home with my son and love the thoughts of being here for our little Molly this Decemeber; but, now I'm itching to do something to contribute just a little to my family and to myself.

I love keeping my home together and taking care of my family but now I need to fill an emptiness which I think would be filled with a hobby; so I fill like I am good at something.

I've decided to try my talents at making diaper cakes, but, I want to feel a little secure in knowing that I can make some cash at it as well; seeing as how it is not cheap to just make and keep or give away, lol.

Any mommies out there making some cash out of their hobbies?

I do a bit of photography on the side to earn a little extra cash. Just remember it is not steady money and you can't depend on it until you have the money in hand. Good Luck!!!

I recommend making one or two as gifts first. I make a whole array of baby items and it both saves and makes me money. I will say that it will not povide a significant income unless you are really devoted and treat it like a job 8 hours a day at least 5 days a week especially in the early going. I know a lot of moms who make a nice little income this way but it is a lot of work advertising and crafting and buying supplies etc. Not to mention there is lots of competition out there these days. The best advice I can give is go in with realistic expectations. You can make a little money here and there and if you get regular customers it can give you some good mad money but don't expect to make a pile of cash doing it. Right now a lot of people are laid off work and everyone is trying to boost their income making crafts so before getting heavily invested make sure that A)your crafts are as good or better quality than your competitiors (be objective) B) You dont have your hopes set too high...a lot of people get high hopes and then end up swimming in craft parts when they realize how much work it is to make the product versus how much they actually make from it. I hope this helps! :)
