so, i've been picking up my 5yo daughter from school for 10 months, i see this lady everyday, she's the grandmother of one of my daughters classmates, Santiago. turns out SHE does the picking up cuz her daughter (Santi's mom) is very ill, has been for years!! i got a txt from the teacher about 10 mins ago, Santi's mom passed away today, she had cancer, and she finally got her peace.
my prob is, my bf says i have no reason to go to the wake (much less the funeral). i feel like i have to go and give my condolences to Santiago's grandmother. it's not like we're close friends, i just think it's the polite thing to do. i know i can't go to the funeral, so i should go to the wake.
any opinions?

I think a Wake is a private matter for the family, close friends,i dont think i would go if i didnt know her personally, instead i would do something else to show the classmate's support, getting a sympothy card and having the classmates sign it..
