I need help with my 4 year olds bed wetting!

My 4 year old son has been potty trained during the day for 2 years now. He was night trained when he was 3 and was doing really well but then one night he had an accident. No big deal I changed the bed and let it go. Then another and another and another! Now he is having accidents 5 nights out of 7 (for several months now) and he refuses to wear a pull up (because he's a 'big boy'). I'm not really sure what to do about it. His doctor isn't worried, but that's a lot of sheets to go through. The thing that worries me most is that he doesn't wake up (or he does and he just doesn't care) and then he just sleeps in his pee until I find it. I'm concerned for his health, not to mention the horrible smell. The only thing I've tried is not giving him liquids at night and also waking him up once or twice a night. That worked for a couple of weeks but then he started peeing before I could even get in to wake him up! I'm at a complete loss for what to do. I just don't know what the problem is. Is he too tired to get up? Scared? Is he a deep sleeper? I just don't know! Any advice would be great!
