I need potty training tips

[deleted account] ( 4 moms have responded )

My 2year old wont go in the potty, we are currently trying the underwear and ask method, and the kid can go like 3 hours (and 3 sippys) with out peeing, but sit him on the potty and he can't go there either. Eventually he'll pee himself, what can I do?

i just introduced the potty to the room as soon as my lil one could walk first she just would sit on it and eventually she would get curious and sit on it without a nappy when she was almost 2 i would give her nappy free time when we were at home she hated peeing on her self and eventually just used the potty at her own pace, yes you will get frustrated chasing them around cleaning up all the messes but they have to learn some time and if you push them into it too much the wont relax and do it.

He ask's to use the potty, but only sits. He can tell me when he needs to pee or even poop. He just can't seem to make himself GO. I loves teh idea of underwear and everything, he just doesn't want to sit on the potty and wait for it to happen and can't seem to make himself go even when it's clear as day he needs too. I can understand if he's afraid of the potty, but he's not terrified of it. I think he just doesn't understand it becuase he hasn't been able to intentionally GO in the potty. He acts like he's ready I know he's my first but I know he wants too.

Like I said He can hold it till he can't hold anymore, but he just can't make himself go when he needs too.

My last son was ready at two, but got scared because his older brother told him that there was a monster in the toilet when the toilet would flush. Maybe your child isn't ready to potty train? It is a little easier when they are ready....

Something I learned from my oldest daughter when it came to potty training: don't rush them. She was 2 1/2 when she decided it was time to get serious about it so I bribed her! It took 2 days and lots of jelly beans and dum dum suckers (her favorite at the time) and she was using it like a pro. I kept pull ups on her at night time, but after a couple of weeks, we were done with those also.

I've heard boys are different than girls (I've got 2 girls so know nada about boys) but the philosophy is the same: do it at their pace, let them tell you when they're ready, and be patient. And bribery worked fantastic for me also but may not for everyone.
