If you become pregnant again, can you still continue breastfeeding your older child or will it effect the new baby?

I have a 1yr old that still breastfeeds quite often, Now that im pregnant again i wanted to know if that would effect the new baby !! meaning getting enough nutrients etc...

Or if it was ok to continue to Breastfeed till when my older child is more comfortable weaning off??

What should i do??

tandem nursing is completely SAFE. so is the period up to that - meaning nursing while you are pregnant. there is no reason to stop unless your doctor has informed you of issues (for example premies in the past). continue taking your prenatal vitamins, getting lots of rest, eating healthy and drink tons and tons of water.  your milk may change so much that your older child will refuse the breast but thats normal and thats something you can deal with when/if that happens.

good luck.

i heard that it is safe but not recommended as it does cause the uterus to contract which could harm ur fetus but consult a doc, or lactation consultant to find out for sure, hope that helps

I would talk to a lactation specialist because I was informed that breastfeeding contracts the uterus so it could be harmful. This is a concern you need to talk to your ob about. :)

Your fetus will get the nutrients it needs first, then your baby then you. However your breast milk will change and a friend of mine had hers change so much her baby wouldn't take it anymore and gave up the breast. It can get a funny taste. Your child may wean themselves if that happens

My mid wives told me it was fine i just had to eat a bit more food but being that i'll be burning calories (breast feeding and being pregnant) Oh and make sure you eat healthy cause know you have two babies getting their vitamins and such from you so if you don't eat enough they will just take it from your body.

I hope this help good luck
