input on disinfecting toys

I don't routinely disinfect my daughter's toys, but I do it every once in awhile, or when there's some sickness going around. My daughter is 14 mo old, and I also watch a 9 mo old baby most days in my home. Some websites will say you should disinfect every toy at least once a week... I certainly don't have the time for this, and I'm guessing most people don't. Just wondering what other people do to disinfect (bleach, soap and water, dishwasher?) and how often you do it. Thanks for the input!

I'm the same way. I start the water and bleach soaking thingy as soon as someone is sick. I buy sanitizing spray to use on doorknobs, etc...The dishwasher is good too for the stuff you can use that on.

It has been a LONG time since I've disinfected any toys. I occassionally wash the cloth ones in the washing machine, and the plastic ones I put in the dishwasher. We have a couple tea party sets, and I wash those in the since like I would wash normal dishes by hand. We have second-hand puzzles, and they haven't ever been disinfected. I guess I figure that the germs are "our germs" and the germs floating around here will just build their immune systems. We are overall a pretty healthy family... with an occasional cold.

I generally do it on days I clean the bathtub. I just dump the toys that can be washed into the tube, turn it on hot, fill it and pour in some bleach. Then I let it sit ( fan on and door closed) for a bit until I am able to get back to it. ( say 8 hours later) then I scrub the tub, drain it, and turn the shower on. I wait about five minutes before getting in myself and making sure the toys are all risnsed off. ( my son is normaly asleep by this point so i have some free time...) Good luck and hope you find somethig that works.
