my son is 9months old and everytime i have him around another baby he pushes and hits them with toys, and laughs when they start cryin. he doesnt like it when they play with his toys either. is this normal for a boy his age to act like this and what should i do. all i do is tell him no and give him a smack on his hand but he just does it again. can any1 help me

No, your son isn't mean. He's also not really playing with the other kids. He is being totally normal. He doesn't know the rules for appropriate social behavior, none (boy or girl) know this stuff. Kids this age don't really even see each other as being people, more like an animated, life size doll. This is very much so a "ME" stage. Just keep in mind that compassion will come.

When my boys would do that, the playdate or whatever was over. I would tell him he was not playing nice and we need to go. I would stop smacking his hand too. He will just see it as an okay for him to do it too. He is too young for time out, doesn't have the attention span for it. So, all you can really do is remove him from the situation when he's behaving poorly, explain why, and redirect him. The other parent's will appreciate a real apology and your removing your son. Most likely, they deal with it too or have dealt with it. Just be patient with both him and yourself, and be consistent. Good luck, it will get better.
