Not a problem! My milk supply does great the first three months and then after that my kiddos stop gaining weight and start losing weight. Happened with both, they were purely breastfed before that and without problems. So it wasn't because I was supplementing. As soon as that happened I started supplementing with formula and then weaned them around 5-6 months. Worked great and my kids have been super healthy! (My 2 year old has been sick twice and my baby once.....due to her sister lol!)

Its not a bad thing, but supplementing can make you produce less milk, which is something to consider if you're hoping to increase your supply. The more often you nurse your baby the more milk your body will be triggered to produce; when you supplement with formula it lessens the need for the baby to nurse. Just something to think about!

Of course you're doing the right thing! You're doing great! I can't imagine why you'd even feel a little bit wrong about it...There is WAAYYYY too much emphasis on breastmilk. I used to get total strangers walking up to me and calling me a bad mother for bottlefeeding my daughter when she was an infant. It made me so mad...She's adopted at the time I was her FOSTER mother...what the heck was I supposed to do?...You do what is best for your baby, just like you are doing and ignore whoever is making you feel bad about it!

I had to do the same thing, I never produced enough milk and my son had troubles latching. He just recently decided he didn't want to bf anymore, but you should consider yourself lucky that your child takes both. Some mothers have the frustration of their child only BF. My ped. said give as much breastmilk as you can, and good for you for giving breast milk.

No it's definitely not a bad thing! You're baby needs to get enough nutrients and you're doing the right thing by trying to make sure your baby gets all the nutrients he or she needs.

I breastfed and topped up with formula for the first 9 months of my daughters life. My pediatrician said great job for choosing to do both. My pediatrician monitored my daughter and I saw a lactation consultant and was able to make more milk and when my daughter started putting weight on properly I was able to drop the bottles. I really wanted to breastfeed her till she was 2 for health reasons and everyone was very supportive of my decision and helped me do it.

you can mix feed but it is totally do-able to produce more over time as well.

I used to do that because I couldn't produce more than two to three mls of breast milk. My pediatrician said it was fine. My daughter was able to get the health benefit of breast milk and still get enough to eat that way.
