There is nothing wrong with letting him practice to stand. My son was 9 mos. and cruising up and down the sofa. Running at his first birthday. I have been told by my pediatrician that the bouncy' and the exersaucers is what causes problems with there leg developement.

my son was doing the same thing a good way to strengthen his legs is to get a jolly jumper for him to bounce in he'll love it.

Got to love old wives tales. Because he is doing it on his own that means its okay for him to do it. Trust in mother nature you will have a much easier time as a parent if you do.

umm, he should be doing that on his own already, i would be worried if he wasnt. and it is a wivestale that it will bow their legs.

absolutely..as long as he is not on a walker..this will encourage him to build on his leg muscles.he will slowly also start grabbing things when placed on a table that he could be holding. this will eventually help him walk sooner :)

My baby boy is 8 months too, and I had the same worries. I refused to try for a while but my son's Daddy finally convinced me to try and he's doing really good!

I've realized that his balance has improved ALOT, his legs are straightening out, and he's genuinely so proud of himself (too cute)!

Let your son explore his strength & mobility, he'll love it.
If he wobbles or falls he'll learn his boundaries, also important for his development!

Just my two cents!

Some babies can walk at that age. I'm sure your baby's legs will be just fine. My son took his first step at 9 months

It is perfectly fine. My son is 7 1/2 months. He started standing up by himself holding on to things for about 3 weeks now. Just be there right behind him just incase he loses his balance. Don't worry before you know it your little one will be up and going.

My first child was standing at 7 months and walking by 8 months, she is almost 11 years old now, and there is nothing wrong with her legs. Each child progresses at their own rate.

its ok. my daughter is 7 months old and always pulls her self up to stand she even walks around the furniture and her legs are perfectly fine

Let him bounce and stand all he wants. That's how his legs get stronger. It prepares him for walking.

Amanda, you are actually doing him a favor probably!! lol. Your helping his leg muscles become stronger & your teaching him that "one up" on walking. You should try letting him walk in a walker. I did that with my youngest & everyone swore she would be bo-legged!! Guess what? She's NOT! lol. But, atleast with a walker, it's safer & gives him more support! Take lots of pictures... those moments are a blast! ;)

My daughter wanted to stand all of the time since she could hold her head up. She started pulling up to stuff and standing on her own at 6 months, crawling at 7 months, and walking at 10 months. She is super strong and now can run laps at 15 months. I think it just shows he is ready to see more of the world. I would start reading about two to three months ahead in baby development books to keep up with him. I now read almost six months ahead for my 15 month old because she is running, hopping, and talking in sentences. It does not mean they will be gifted or anything, just that they are doing great now.

He is doing exactly what he should be doing! : ) My son is 8 months old too and doing the same thing. His legs were pretty bow legged when he was born and now that hes been standing theyre straightening out lol. He'll start to walk soon. Good luck!

Standing at this age is completely developmentally appropriate. It's how babies gain the leg strength to start walking on their own. Enjoy the new milestone - there's nothing to worry about. Good luck when he starts walking!

Actually this will make his legs muscles stronger and make him walk sooner. Then the fun will begin!
